Shiny Pokémon are rare variants of Pokémon that are differently colored than other Pokémon of their species. If yous're lucky, yous may randomly encounter Shiny Pokémon in the wild, particularly during special events similar Community Days or Pokémon GO Fest.

Y'all tin tell if the Pokémon y'all've encountered is a Shiny Pokémon if you see an icon above their CP like the one in the picture below.

Besides encounters in the wild, Raid Dominate encounters, Special Research Breakthroughs, Research Task rewards, and other rewards are only a few means you may encounter a Shiny Pokémon. Stay tuned to the official Pokémon Become weblog for details on which Shiny Pokémon you may encounter or will exist bachelor in the game, as non all Pokémon in the game have a shiny variant bachelor to date.

Annotation: Ditto will non disguise itself equally other Shiny Pokémon, fifty-fifty if Ditto is Shiny. However, a Shiny Ditto may disguise itself every bit a non-Shiny Pokémon!

Event-Limited Shiny Pokémon

Some Pokémon, such as Smeargle, Unown and Meltan, can't exist encountered in their Shiny variants outside of specific events. We'll share when these Pokémon can be found in their Shiny variants in our official event updates on our blog.

Regional Forms vs. Shiny Variants

You may meet Pokémon that may appear Shiny at start glance but are actually regional forms of Pokémon.

For example, Kanto Rattata are imperial and stand on all fours, while Alolan Rattata are black and stand up upright. Also, Kanto Rattata are Normal-type Pokémon, while Alolan Rattata are Normal and Nighttime-type.

Note: Certain Pokémon's regional forms may also be Shiny. Just like with standard Pokémon, y'all can tell if they're Shiny if there'due south a shiny icon higher up their CP.
